"At this time, probably the worst offender was a vainglorious spiteful brake van named Dominick "
ā€” Edward, Carriages

Dominick, or The Spiteful Brake Van was a spiteful and troublesome brake van.

Biography[]

At the time he was the worst of many rolling stock built with disagreeable personalities and he always told about feeling unappreciated and not fully releasing his brakes, so the engine would pull their train to go slowly. One day, after he and Douglas got into an argument, the brake van took an instant dislike to Douglas and purposely delayed his trains, with Douglas subsequently being the one blamed. Donald, angry for how his brother was being treated, bumped the brake van violently to teach him a lesson. The van would then behave better for several days, but Mickey had Donald be shunted for two weeks.

One day, James had to take a coal train to the Mainland with Dominick as his brake van. When he reached Wellsworth, Douglas decided to help James. When they started to climb Gordon's Hill, James was losing steam and Dominick began getting compressed between Douglas and the trucks, and eventually was crushed into pieces. Dominick was subsequently scrapped.

In November 1938, Dominick, as a ghost, returned as the culprit of two brake vans disappearing, murdering one guard and mentally destroying the second. He also caused an accident which resulted in Peter having to spend six months at Crewe to be repaired. The brake van met up Douglas, who gave him a tongue-lashing and ordered the brake van to leave and never return. Dominick had disappeared, but the engines did hear him for a while afterwards, as the brake van would let out a haunting shriek to have them remain aware of his presence. It eventually stopped, and it is unknown whether Dominick decided it wasn't worth it or he had moved on.

In Path of the Dead, Douglas was pulling a passenger up Gordon's Hill, and he appears out of nowhere in front of him, much to his surprise.
