I reorganised the character appearances in the episode "Sting". I was wanting to suggest an improvement to the character order in episodes. I haven't quite decided on the order, but it's something I wanted to advise.
The Wiki doesn't really have a 'Manuel of Style' as other wikis do - something I would like to change in the future. However, the somewhat-unofficial order that I have adapted from earlier versions and that we generally use is pretty easy to understand once you know it.
As far as I know, the [Season 3] page has one of the best examples of this order, though not everyone is in the right place due to not speaking, as well as many characters being introduced that season. I've noticed a few errors in it as well, so don't take it as a fully-accurate guide.
First up, we have the first eleven engines from the RWS, so Thomas to Oliver. Then Eric, as he's a former Nor'easter. Then we have the former Midis, starting with Diesel as he's a RWS character, then Colin, Adam, and Lily, as they're numbered one to three. Reginald follows as he's unnumbered, and Peter is last because he was introduced after the others.
Next we have the other engines on Sodor belonging to the North-Western Region, in order of formal appearance in the series, so Whiff, Geoffrey, Molly, Samantha, Peckett, Hurricane, Paul, Arthur (1943), Samson, and Cuthbert. These are followed by the unaffiliated Sudrian engines: Clive, Neil and Matthew go first as Clive was introduced first, and that's their numbered order from the S&M. Mickey, Kate, Benson and Rosie follow as they appeared in that order.
Then we have the Railway Police/MI5 engines in order of appearance, so Joey, Eliza and Lenny, as they work all over Britain. Next are the non-Sodor engines based on order of formal appearance, which I won't list.
After the standard gauge engines we have the narrow gauge ones in numbered order, with the former-MSR before the SKR. Then we have named rolling stock and then road vehicles in order of formal appearance in the series, then marine vessels in numbered order followed by order of appearance. As a general rule numbered order always takes precedence over order of appearance. Lastly, we have named human characters in order of their formal appearance in the series, then engine crews in the same order as the engines, then unnamed characters such as workmen in their order of appearance in the episode.
This order is carried out for speaking roles, then 'does not speak' roles, then cameos, then 'mentioned' roles. Their are sometimes sub-categories within these four, such as 'as a ghost' or 'not named'. These are put at the end of their respective categories.
This is kind of just off the top off my head, and it's not 100% official or 100% consistent across the pages I've edited in the past. In the future I'll write some form of guide, much better explained than this one, and I might put it on the [Rules] page. In earlier seasons this order is switched around a bit, as many engines weren't owned by their present owners or weren't based on Sodor when those character orders were written.
This came out way longer than I meant it too - sorry for that. Happy editing. :)
I have been promoted to Bureaucrat, so I guess it's your lucky day! You are now a Content Moderator. You have been such an enormous help over the past few months, and I just can't thank you enough.
I have a few weeks of holidays right now, so hopefully we can start on The Stories of Sodor Wiki Modernisation Plan for real this time. There may also be another promotion in store in the coming weeks... :)
P.S: Don't worry if you don't see the tag on your profile. It often takes a while to show up.
Oh wow. Thank you so much. Welcome back I guess from your business. Sadly, it seems I will be busier with my school work but I will do my best with editing despite my schedule and congratulations to you.
Wow, just.... wow! You are the most dedicated editor on the wiki I have come across so far! I'm really sorry for being inactive for the past few months, as I'm the only current 'active' admin on the wiki. I still check it most days for major problems, but I haven't edited any articles for over two months, due to personal reasons. Luckily that's about to change. I'm just about to officially launch 'The Stories of Sodor Wiki Modernisation Plan', which will entail major improvemnts to all character and episode articles, bringing every single one fully up-to-date. I'm also going to make major updates to the homepage, so stay tuned!
